Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/3 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Orange, yellow, and white food coloring
  • Vanilla frosting (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the softened butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined and smooth.
  4. Divide the batter into three equal portions. Leave one portion white, add yellow food coloring to the second, and orange to the third. Mix each portion well.
  5. Now for the fun part! Layer the colored batters into each cupcake liner, starting with orange at the bottom, then yellow, and finally white on top. Fill each liner about 2/3 full.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
  8. For the frosting, divide your vanilla frosting into three portions and color them orange, yellow, and white. Pipe the frosting onto the cooled cupcakes in the same candy corn pattern.
  9. For an extra touch, top each cupcake with a piece of actual candy corn!
