- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/3 cups granulated sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Orange, yellow, and white food coloring
- Vanilla frosting (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the softened butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined and smooth.
- Divide the batter into three equal portions. Leave one portion white, add yellow food coloring to the second, and orange to the third. Mix each portion well.
- Now for the fun part! Layer the colored batters into each cupcake liner, starting with orange at the bottom, then yellow, and finally white on top. Fill each liner about 2/3 full.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
- For the frosting, divide your vanilla frosting into three portions and color them orange, yellow, and white. Pipe the frosting onto the cooled cupcakes in the same candy corn pattern.
- For an extra touch, top each cupcake with a piece of actual candy corn!
