Description

Learn how to make classic vanilla French beignets with this easy recipe-crispy on the outside, soft and airy on the inside, and dusted with powdered sugar.

Ingredients

Scale

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

Vegetable oil for frying

Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until a sticky dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into 2-inch squares.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the dough squares in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.

Drain on paper towels and dust generously with powdered sugar. Serve warm.
