Deconstructed Big Mac Garden Delight

Imagine taking a classic, beloved American staple, the Big Mac, and giving it a healthful, refreshing makeover. That’s what we’ve done with the All-American Burger Salad. With this recipe, we’ve combined the hearty, savory elements of a traditional burger – lean ground beef, crisp pickles, diced onions, and shredded cheese – and layered them atop a bed of fresh, crisp lettuce.

The real star, though, is the homemade special sauce. A delightful blend of mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, and select spices, this sauce ties everything together, recreating that familiar, delectable Big Mac taste in a lighter, healthier format. Perfect for a summer barbeque, a weeknight dinner, or even a unique potluck dish, this All-American Burger Salad is a fun, satisfying way to enjoy a burger without the bun.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 6 cups chopped lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup diced pickles
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • Special Sauce (recipe follows)

For the Special Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 4 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Directions:

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. While the beef is cooking, prepare the special sauce. Mix together all sauce ingredients until well blended. Set aside.
  3. Assemble the salad. On a large platter, layer the lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, cheese, and onions.
  4. Top the salad with the cooked ground beef.
  5. Drizzle the special sauce over the salad. Toss gently to combine, ensuring every bit gets a touch of the sauce.
